Best 10 laptops for stock trading

trading stock laptop

The Stock Market is a platform that requires a competent machine to do the work. Trading was done via phones and on calls in the last decade. Many stock trading platforms have emerged since then that offer a seamless and detailed view of your stock’s performance in real-time. That is an impressive feature for the investors that had to earlier rely on calls for selling or buying stocks. The news has its place and provides its perspective on a particular stock and makes suggestions on them. But the market is a lot more competitive than that, with new users joining various stock trading platforms every single day.

That means going digital is the best approach to be successful in understanding the market better. As we discussed earlier, the stock trading platforms display even the minuscule changes in the stock’s performance. That requires huge computational power to display all the variables in one place. That is why the trading platforms come with their software or a website that helps users to access real-time stock market data. The investment in maintaining a stock trading platform application is not an easy feat and comes with a huge initial investment. Fortunately, the users have to spend just on a laptop or computer that has adequate or above system requirements to easily navigate the stock trading platform. So going digital is a better option if you want to enter the lucrative world of the stock market.

The software part of the trading platform has to gather all the real-time data from the server and present it to the user without any delay. The servers of the trading platform are very rarely down as the stock market enthusiasts never sleep. So ensure that your platform has got that covered. Moving on to the software part, since it displays real-time data, its expectations are always in the higher range. Every software is built with the thought of its implementation on most of the systems running in the present day. But the performance of the software varies with the components installed in a system.

So a present generation stock trading platform will only work without any stutters on a system that has at least a four-core processor. It might work on two-cores but we are here for the best and not a system that barely makes it. Stock trading platforms require processors with multi-cores that are of higher base clock frequency. The processors with overclocking features are a must-have if you wish to use it specifically for stock-trading. Newer generation processors should be preferred, as the system requirement keeps increasing with the time.

The next important component is the RAM (Random Access Memory) that is required for storing the processed data and results that have to be accessed frequently by the processor. That makes it a crucial component for software that is CPU-intensive and has to perform a large number of calculations every minute. When dealing with RAM choices, the more the merrier. Also keep in mind that DDR4 or LPDDR4 has become an industry-standard now, as they possess a higher frequency than the DDR3 RAM. DDR4 also consumes a lot less power than a traditional DDR3, while providing higher performance.

Storage is also an impeding factor in the response time of applications that is not viewed as a primary concern by many. It doesn’t seem practical to use a slower hard disk drive (mostly the 5400 RPM) that offers the lowest possible read and write speed in a laptop. So, it’s better to use a combination of a solid-state drive and hard disk drive or only a solid-state drive in a lightweight system such as a laptop. The stock trading software is not-considered GPU-intensive. Most of the work is processor-based so a newer-generation GPU (integrated or discrete) will suffice. You should go for laptops with high-end GPU only when you want to connect an external display while working on the software. But the chances for that are incredibly slim as laptop users prefer portability and compactness.

The display is also a factor to consider before buying a laptop. The 1080 pixel resolution is the industry standard and anything less than that comes with poor resolution and bad viewing angles. When thinking of screen size 15.6 inches is right in the ballpark of being huge but not monstrous. The increase in screen size means more weight, so align your priorities first. In terms of Operating system, Windows and macOS are the preferred ones and most of the stock market software is compatible with both of them. There were some lingering issues in the past with Windows a few years back but the issues have been completely resolved with frequent updates and patches by the company.

Lastly, when dealing with laptops, battery life is very important for users seeking high productivity that is not marred by frequent stops for plugging in the charger. Few come with a type-c port that also supports charging via tiny power banks.

To make your transition smoother, we’ve listed the top 10 laptops that are best when it comes to trading in the stock market.

Asus Zenbook UX481FL-HJ143TS might seem quirky at the first glance, but it is a well-thought-out laptop in terms of design. Asus has been consistently working on extending the screen beyond the traditional practices. This laptop is one gaming many to feature secondary displays on the keyboard side. The chassis is not flimsy at all and has passed several military-grade tests that validate its claim.

The display has a 90 percent screen to body ratio that results in the narrowest possible bezels on a fourteen-inch panel. The Full HD LED Backlit IPS-Level Touch Display has a resolution of 1920*1080 pixel that is a Pantone validated and produces sharp and vivid color output. It is also anti-glare and that means lesser reflection in bright light. The 300 nits brightness makes it a little difficult to be used in bright outdoor settings.

The top bezel has an IR webcam that supports Windows Hello face login.

The laptop has an additional 12.6 inches display that is touch-enabled with stylus integration. It is best for navigating stock market stats in the main window and the charts in the secondary window. No need to add an external display. The keyboard and trackpad have been shifted to the bottom and offer a decent experience due to the 1.4 mm key travel.

Specification wise the Asus Zenbook UX481FL-HJ143TS is a lean and mean machine with an Intel i7 tenth-generation processor and 16 GB of DDR4 memory that offers the best experience in CPU intensive software like the stock market applications. It comes with 1 TB of SSD that enables it to boot faster and provide impressive read and write speeds. The laptop also comes with a discrete Nvidia MX250 GPU that handles pretty much everything in the video department with ease. The laptop claims to have a battery life of up to 22 hours on a single charge that is unusual for a compact machine.

  • Dual-screen setup
  • Great battery life

Cons

  • Crammed keyboard layout

Razer Blade 15 Base Edition is another mean machine that is best for performance-intensive tasks. The aesthetics of the Razer Blade are stunning at the first glance and has a boxy design that feels thin and sturdy. Every aspect of the laptop has been crafted with the thought of the performance, be it the processor, memory, storage, and GPU.

The laptop uses a 4K OLED panel that produces crisp color output and deeper blacks making it a perfect choice for visual content. The color accuracy is factory calibrated and cannot be altered by the user. it uses a Single-zone RGBkeyboard which is powered by Razer Chroma, a software that handles the color output. The glass-precision touchpad is responsive and located in the absolute center. It has top-firing speakers that are located on either side of the keyboard and sound decent due to the Dolby support.

The 512 GB SSD makes it able to handle data access and transfer simultaneously without any stuttering. GPU is slightly overkilling for a trading centric machine but with an RTX 2070 GPU, adding multiple screens becomes super easy. The GPU is installed using Max-Q technology and consumes low-power that the full-fledged card of the same caliber.

The battery life of the Razer Blade is in the range of 5-6 hours and decline rapidly in GPU intensive tasks. The port assembly is adequate and comes with all the necessary ports that include an Ethernet port.
