Best laptops for Minecraft under 300 dollars

300 dollars is a very stern budget. Purchasing a laptop under the 300 USD bracket is only recommended if you want a machine that can serve basic documentation needs without stuttering too much. Gaming is a distant but achievable possibility if you are willing to settle for slightly lower-end graphical output. I can recommend many games that will run on a 300 USD laptop but this article is about one game, in particular, i.e, Minecraft. The laptops recommended in the article will easily run Minecraft at decent frame rates and with minimal latency.

What is Minecraft?

For starters, it is an immensely popular sandbox game that doesn’t lie in any particular genre of video games. It was originally made for windows pc in the year 2010 but has made its way to almost every operating system including Android, iOS, Mac, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, etc. The game is a never-ending journey with room for as much creativity as you can put into the game.

Minecraft game modes

Minecraft has four game modes, each with its benefits and difficulty levels. The four types of game modes are as follows:

  • Survival mode

The survival mode is self-explanatory. Players have to survive in the game and scrounge for resources and weapons. The night presents more challenges as the players have to protect themselves from mobs, that run rampant through the land. The health bar also takes a hit if an enemy inflicts damage on you. A hunger bar is also present that needs to refilled to play the game.

  • Hardcore mode

It is survival mode on the extreme difficulty. Hardcore mode is the hardest setting where players can put their skills to test against a permanently depleting health bar. Hardcore mode has a permadeath which is the sole letdown of this mode. Once a player dies in the game his/her character cannot be resurrected and all the potential progress until the time of death is lost. Players have to work up a new character and improve skills once again. The Hardcore mode of Minecraft is only available within the Java edition.

  • Creative mode

Creative mode is a safe-haven for players to explore all the possibilities of the game. You have access to all the resources and items in the inventory and can access them in one go. The flying ability is also available in creative mode so that you can have an aerial view of your creation. The health bar and hunger bar are not to be worried about as your character doesn’t take any damage. Enthusiasts have gone berserk with the creative mode as you can see major skyscrapers and monuments in various maps in Minecraft.

  • Adventure mode

Minecraft allows players to create their own maps which can be accessed by different players. It is akin to survival mode but can have limited resources and freedom which is altered by the creator of the map.

  • Spectator mode

View only mode that enables you to fly in-game and view the gameplay. You cannot enter any input, take damage or craft items. You can, however, view from any active players’ perspective.

  • Multiplayer mode

Minecraft supports multiplayer via game-to-game multiplayer, LAN play, split-screen for consoles, and servers.

In our quest for economical laptops that can run Minecraft, the Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485 appears as a prime contender. It is a great deal for beginners, students, or pretty much anyone who want an entry-level laptop with a compact body and great internals. The design of the Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485 is pretty minimalist and comes with a silver and black combination. The display has thick bezels along with a webcam housed on the top bezel. The webcam is an HD one so video conferencing is also possible on the Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485. It adopts a basic hinge design that could be improved considering the newer model and the fragile nature of the hinge design. The Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485 comes with a fourteen-inch HD LED-backlit TFT display that is vibrant and produces good colors. The display has a maximum resolution of 1336*768 and is fit for media consumption and playing games like Minecraft.

The Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485  comes with a great combination of input-output ports that come in handy whether you want to connect to the internet, transfer data, or plug-in a device. It has two faster USB 3..0 Type-A ports, 1 USB 2.0 Type-A port, an SD card reader, an Ethernet port, a VGA port, and an HDMI port, both of which can be used to connect to an external display. Apart from that, you get both Bluetooth version 4.0 and Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity. It lacks an optical disk drive which enables it to have a lightweight body.

The Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485 comes with an Intel Pentium Gold processor that has a base clock frequency of 2.3 GHz and comes with two physical cores. It supports up to 32 GB memory but comes with only 4 GB DDR4 memory in the box. There are two memory slots, each of which supports a 16 GB RAM module. It used a 1 TB SATA hard disk drive, which provides ample space to store your games and video files. The graphics processor is integrated onto the motherboard and comes with the Intel Integrated HD 610 version. This integrated GPU is fit for playing Minecraft at low to mid-settings with ease and provides good frame rates while doing so.

The Acer One 14 Pentium Gold Z2-485 uses a 14 nm processor and is more energy conservative due to great overall optimization. It uses a four-cell battery that can last up to seven hours, as claimed by the brand. In a real use case scenario, it would last for 2-3 hours and even less if you play games on it. It comes with a licensed copy of windows 10 and guarantees regular updates for the users. It uses a 64-bit version of windows so you can even run Minecraft Java edition on the laptop.

Asus x543ma-gq1020t is another lightweight offering that is a great fit for light documentation and office work along with web browsing and gaming. It comes in transparent silver and is very lightweight, a part of which can be attributed to the absence of an optical disk drive. Despite being a 15-inch laptop, it feels lightweight and premium to carry. It is composed of hard shell plastic which is common in laptops of this price range.

The sheer look of the Asus x543ma-gq1020t, will convince you to buy it at once. It adopts the silver black two-tone design that looks perfect. The bezels are thin and do not obstruct your view while operating the laptop. It comes with a screen to body ratio of 75 percent and provides an immersive experience while gaming and watching videos. The top bezel does house a VGA webcam that offers poor quality and can be improved, as per my opinion. It comes with a dual microphone that can transmit clear audio to the recipient.

Asus x543ma-gq1020t features a 15.6-inch display perfect for playing Minecraft on a large screen. It is comparatively larger than our first entry and comes with an LED display panel as well. Asus has made some tweaks to the display’s performance using Asus Splendid technology. It comes with four display modes, namely Normal mode, Vivid mode, Eye Care mode, and Manual mode. The screen brightness is capped at 200 nits, which is good for using it indoors.

The keyboard on the Asus x543ma-gq1020t is a treat to work with. It provides the ultimate typing and gaming experience and comes with a 1.8 mm key travel. It is a chiclet keyboard that features a separate number pad fit for intensive numeric typing requirements. The trackpad is smaller in comparison to the size available for it but comes with multi-gesture support. It lacks dedicated physical buttons so I would advise you to purchase a mouse for the same.

The input-output ports consist of the usual USB port assortment with two slow USB 2.0 ports and a single USB 3.2 port which is much faster. It only uses HDMI for video output and pairing to multiple screens and comes with a micro SD card reader which is a letdown for many users. You may have to buy a dongle to extend the VGA connection or an ethernet connection. The laptop limits the connectivity to wireless-only and lacks an ethernet port. It does come with a Wi-Fi 5 card and Bluetooth version 4.1, both of which provide fast connectivity.

Asus x543ma-gq1020t comes with a four-core Intel Pentium Silver series processor. It is more than enough to tackle the daily workload and work its way through Minecraft requirements. It is paired with a 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM that conserves the battery power and manages applications with ease. The laptop comes with ample storage space of 1 TB, which is a challenge to fill up, even for gamers. It is a hard disk drive that has a rotating speed of 5400 RPM, which facilitates fast data transfer.

To top everything, it comes with an integrated Intel graphics processor. The Intel UHD 605 graphics processor provides superior performance in multiplayer games like Minecraft and maintains decent frame rates while gaming or content steaming. Gaming can increase the thermals of the laptop but with IceCool technology, Asus directs the heat away from the palm rest. So you do not need an additional keyboard to play games on the laptop. The battery can last up to 3 hours on basic documentation use. If you want the ultimate gaming experience connecting the power cord is a must. A perfect match for playing Minecraft and other lightweight games.

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 is by far, the most gorgeous looking laptop of this lineup. Ever since Lenovo refreshed its design, the newer laptops look distinguishing from the rest of the brands. This laptop is a lightweight one, measuring just 1.85 kilograms on the scale, and a perfect companion for carrying it to work or playing games on it. The new laptop design from Lenovo displays minimalism and will be a classy addition to your gadget collection.

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 is composed of plastic but comes with a metallic silver finish in and out, which appears to.be solid metal, from a distance. Only the screen bezels are kept black, which complements the silver-grey color combination. Another important change made to the laptop is its hinge, which is now a cylindrical contraption that is built to last. The entire chassis is just 19.9 mm thick, which is ergonomic and easy to carry.

Editors Rating:

As I said, Lenovo did a great job with the design. The bezels, despite being on an economical laptop, follow the slim orientation with the two sides being practically invisible. The top bezel houses a 0.3-megapixel webcam that comes with a privacy shutter for added security. The screen adopts the design that you see on modern ultrabooks and is good to play games and watch content on it. The laptop uses a 15.6-inch display. It comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio which is antiglare and perfect to use in bright light conditions. The tall aspect ratio makes it easy to game with titles that have a large map like Minecraft.

Lenovo built the input-output ports to keep the slim architecture intact. That slim architecture costs you the beloved Ethernet port that can be used to play Minecraft on local LAN. You do get blazing fast two USB 3.2 ports and a sluggish USB 2.0 port with an HDMI port. The laptop retains the full-sized SD card slot and the headphone jack. For internet connectivity, the laptop provides a Wi-Fi 5 card that provides uninterrupted connectivity and blazing fast speed. Bluetooth version 5.0 is available for file transfer.

It comes with a full-size keyboard and chiclet-style keys that are common with Lenovo laptops. The trackpad could have been larger and you do need to buy a mouse to play games on it. The laptop comes with Dolby audio technology that provides an immersive aural experience while watching movies.

The internals consists of a powerful AMD 3020e dual-core processor that can go up to 2.6 GHz. The processor has a very low TDP, therefore it can run without drawing too much power. The laptop also comes with 4 GB DDR4 memory that enables you to run applications and games. You can store your favorite games without uninstalling them and can store heavy documents too. All this is possible due to the 1 TB hard disk drive that is bundled with the laptop. For graphics, the processor comes with the onboard Radeon Vega 3 that can run Minecraft and high definition movies at decent framerates.

The laptop promises a battery life of 5 hours but it sadly doesn’t last that much in daily usage. The laptop can last 2.5 to 3 hours on Max Mode that conserves battery. All in all, a laptop with great aesthetics and internals that can help you play Minecraft.

HP 15s-du1052TU is a standard laptop with a design that is common among the cheaper offerings. Keeping in mind that it is indeed close to the 300 USD price bracket, I wouldn’t stress much on the design. Although, it would have been great if HP put in the same efforts as Lenovo did with the design of its laptops. The HP 15s-du1052TU does shed the optical disk drive that makes it lightweight and therefore easy to carry.

HP 15s-du1052TU is a great laptop nonetheless, only its looks are not on par with the newer laptops. It has all the required ports that make it a connection powerhouse. You can enjoy the LAN play with Minecraft or can connect high-speed ethernet to the laptop. It comes with a super speed USB Type-C port that enables you to transfer data at 5 Gbps. There two USB Type-A ports on the other side that come with the same data transfer rate. For wireless connectivity, the laptop comes with a Wi-Fi card and a Bluetooth version 4.2. You also get an HDMI port for connecting to an external display and also get a full-sized SD card reader with the laptop.

HP 15s-du1052TU
HP 15s-du1052TU
Editors Rating:

The display on the HP 15s-du1052TU adopts slim bezels on the side edges while retaining the beefy ones on the top and bottom. The slimmer side bezels present a more immersive experience while gaming and streaming content on Netflix and Amazon. For 300 bucks you get an HD WLED screen with a display resolution of 1336*768 pixels. The micro-edge display has a 220 nits brightness which is bright enough for use in bright light conditions. The color gamut on the display is rich enough to display vivid colors and sharp contrast while gaming and watching videos.

One thing that I like about the laptop is that the interior build is composed of a metal plate. Due to the metallic plate, the chassis does not flex much and is cool enough to use under a high load. The internals of the laptop is equally impressive for the price point. You get a Pentium Gold dual-core processor that runs Minecraft and most web and desktop applications with ease. The 4 GB RAM is upgradable up to 64 GB but you only have two slots for it. Intel UHD graphics are bundled with the processor which makes this one of the best budget laptops for playing Minecraft. You also get a whopping 1 TB hard disk drive that can be used to save up your game, update files, data, and videos.

One more thing to love about the HP 15s-du1052TU is that it supports fast charging via the USB Type-C port. This enables you to charge the laptop within 100 minutes and can even charge from a compatible power bank. The battery also lasts longer and can provide you a backup of 2-3 hours on a single charge. The battery is inbuilt and cannot be easily replaced by the user.

DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS is a tough contender on our line-up but scores this position only because of the Dell problem. The Dell problem is a slightly overpriced product than what you could get for cheap from other brands. DELLs reputation has always been of an unwavering product quality, which is what you get with this laptop. The laptop is lightweight and compact but looks a bit outdated in terms of design. If you are able to overlook the aesthetics factor, the DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS has a lot to offer to you.

The first thing that I would like to address is its rugged polycarbonate body that gives it a beefy look. It can survive a few tumbles but I wouldn’t suggest it. The bezel scheme reminds you of laptops from 2012 when all you had was a thick chunk of plastic of all four sides. The top bezel has a 720-pixel webcam with admissible video quality but not off-the-charts video conferencing ability. It has an HD LED-backlit display with a 1336* 768-pixel resolution that enables you to play Minecraft and watch content in HD. The color production is crisp although the brightness is slightly on the dull side. It may be the glossy panel that draws a lot of reflection in bright environments.

All the connectivity options are present in the DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS. It has an Ethernet port, a Wi-Fi 5 card, and a Bluetooth version 4.1 for internet access and file sharing. The laptop is also housing an optical disk drive that can be used to read and write both CD and DVD disk. It has three USB ports, two of which are high-speed USB Type-A ports for fast data transfer. It also has an HDMI port and an SD card reader with a headphone jack on one side. So whether you want to play games or copy files, the laptop has an abundance of both of these options. The laptop also has dual speakers that are tuned by Waves Maxx audio for better sound output.

DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS
DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS
Editors Rating:

The laptop comes with a dual-core A6 processor by AMD that works well with most applications and games. It does not heat up excessively and provides consistent performance throughout the usage. It is coupled with 4 GB of DDR4 RAM that is adequate for a normal application, and games. The only downside that I find is the 500 GB capacity hard disk that can be a little restrictive when it comes to storage space. The GPU is on board and not discrete with the laptop. It uses integrated Radeon R4 graphics that can run games like Minecraft, DOTA, etc at low to medium settings. The graphics processor is also capable of playing HD videos in media players and in the browser.

The battery life on the DELL I3565-A453BLK-PUS is nothing impressive and lies in the ballpark of 2-2.5 hours. It does not have fast charging and takes almost 3 hours to completely charge. The battery is non-swappable and requires a visit to the service centre.

Conclusion

These were the best laptops for Minecraft under 300 dollars that can help you play Minecraft without spending too much from your pocket. My personal choice would the Lenovo one for the sleek and tacky design and a responsive keyboard and trackpad. Moreover, the slim bezel scheme and the bright panel provide you an immersive gaming experience. My other pick would be the Asus or Acer, with the latter being the first preference only because Acer has a better overall optimization and less intrusive system applications. If you put brand presence as your priority, then HP or the Dell laptop is best for light usage, office work, and some Minecraft in your spare time.
