The last two exclusives for PS4, the Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, were both gorgeous games. They bid adieu to the older gen PlayStation Pro hardware with the best possible visual fidelity, smoother gameplay, and absolutely bonkers storyline that was warmly welcomed by the PlayStation community. After these two games, newer releases have been kind of jittery on the console, especially games like Cyberpunk 2077, which wasn’t designed for older generation consoles, both PlayStation and Xbox included.
With the launch of PS5, users got a taste of the raw power built underneath PS5 with new titles like Astro’s Playroom, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Demon Souls, to name a few PS5 exclusives. After that, the exclusive releases have been kind of slow and disappointing as the games for the new consoles are in development.
Still, the PS5 launch event hinted at a lot of exclusives in the pipeline with gameplay footages and teasers that made the gamers fraternity go mad over owning a PlayStation 5 on day one. We will discuss the best exclusives planned for PS5 and which is anticipated to arrive in 2021 and beyond. These exclusives will be limited to the new console and PC, in some cases. We won’t be including cross-platform games as those are in abundance for either of the consoles.
Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the second in line for the Horizon Series that captured the PlayStation gamers for long sessions. The older titles were released for Windows, which sparked a feud among gaming communities for releasing exclusives of PlayStation to other consoles and platforms. Enough of that rant, the new game, Horizon Forbidden West, follows after the events of the first game with even more challenging gameplay and visually stunning environments.
Horizon Forbidden West, like most PS5 exclusives, is designed to tap into the full power of the PS5. The experience will differ between PS4 and PS5 consoles as the latter will support Ray Tracing and 4K at 60 frames per second. The new game continues with Aloy’s story as a mysterious red light is canvassing the earth. The new games take the protagonist into San Francisco, where she has to comb the ruins to find the technology to defeat the mysterious red light.
New enemy challenges, ruthless hunting factions, are all infused into the latest iteration of Horizon Forbidden West. The new features include a focus scanner that allows free climbing on supported areas, a diving mask to explore the rich amphibious life under the water, and the option to override and control the machines for traveling and fights. New and quirky weapons that spice up the gameplay. Horizon Forbidden West is set to release this year for PS5 exclusives, presumably around the fall of 2021.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
Insomniac is pushing out masterpieces after masterpieces, with the Spiderman: Miles Morales being the latest and greatest from the studio. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will topple that, no doubt, because it appears to be visually quirky if that’s a word. It is a multidimensional switching game where players can switch from portals to portals. When we saw the teaser from the PS5 launch event, the game footage displayed Ratchet slinging from one portal to another. It appeared as a smooth transition and hardware demanding, from the sights of it.
Even though it is an abrupt change of dimensions, there are no loading screens and the recent clip showcases a lot more into that. While portal switching wasn’t displayed in the new gameplay footage, the transition from cutscenes to gameplay felt so seamless that it was difficult to differentiate between the two.
Insomniac seems pretty confident with this quirky, vivid, and funky game that is being revamped after so many years. Dystopian worlds in games ate becoming popular now and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West are just a few noticeable examples of that. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is coming to the PS5 exclusives on 11 June 2021 and we advise you to pre-order it as soon as possible.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is another mysterious, magical yet visually dense exclusive planning to grace the PS5 consoles this fall. Apart from the PS5, the game is also to be released on the Epic Games store. Kena: Bridge of Spirits follows the story of Kena who is a spirit hunter that frees them from the shackles of desires to spread ruckus in the mortal world. Kena fights spirits with a single spear-like weapon that can transform into other close-range and distant-range attacks on the spirits.
It would be boorish to compare Kena: Bridge of Spirits with Zelda: Breath of the wild, but the vast open-world remains a common thing in both of them. The open-world is designed to keep players hooked for hours to find objects that increase the power and attacking ability. Also, there are tiny little helpers called Rot, who act as your aide during the course of the game.
Slowly, as the game progresses the rot evolves into factions and can carry out a lot of tasks like collection of items, helping in crossing obstacles, and even swarming the enemies and attacking them while you recuperate. Kena: Bridge of Spirits has a distinct Pixar studios vibe because it is being developed by Pixar and Studio Ghibli. We expect it to be for all age groups and a visual treat for the eyes, much like a cuter version of horizon forbidden west.
Bethesda is rolling out Deathloop with the help of Arkane Studios exclusively for the PS5 exclusives. Moving away from the simple open-world like Horizon Forbidden West, Deathloop is all about flashy guns, immense weapon usage, and a slight hint of gore when you perform a different kind of killing. The main story is based on the idea that the protagonist is stuck in a time loop. A loop doesn’t sound promising and appears repetitive, right? Well, the developers have gone way beyond that. Each time you die, the game starts from the red sea. The objective of the game is to finish 8 bosses before the loop ends.
The way developers put it, and given the swarm of enemies, it appears impossible. That is why your progress in terms of knowledge about the targets, weapons, and combat achievements is retained each time you start a loop. Knowledge is deemed as power in this game so rather than your typical shoot-to-kill games, a lot of groundwork has to be done before you achieve the sweet emotion of decapitating your targets. 8 targets mean at least 8 boss fights which are plenty. There is no indication of how long the game will be but we don’t expect it to last very long considering the constraints of the storyline.
Gran Turismo 7
The Gran Turismo franchise had deep roots in PlayStation and the latest iteration, Gran Turismo 7, has a long time before it graces us with its presence on the latest PS5. Gran Turismo 7 has been in development for a long time, excruciatingly long time. Earlier destined to be released this year, the game has been shelved to later in the next year. This delay stems from the bugs that were there in the initial phase along with adapting to the newer hardware of the PS5.
Gran Turismo 7 is going to be a spectacle and the best racing simulator game in whatever year it drops. The game plans to take all advantage of PS5 hardware that includes dual shock 4 controller responsive triggers, real-time Ray tracing, faster transition, and game load with the integrated storage drive on PS5. A new trailer depicts the beautiful landscapes and tracks that will come with the title but a few introduction features teased in the initial launch event have been scrapped.
Warner Bros game studios have rolled out much gripping game series in the past, especially the Batman games, but never gave a thought to reviving the Harry Potter games franchise. Well, that is coming to an end with last year’s announcement of Hogwarts Legacy, a game full of wizardry, magic and set in Hogwarts, the school of magic. We understand that magic is becoming a theme for many games but nothing fits perfectly as it does with Hogwarts.
By the time, the game ships, the game will constitute the hard work of over 1000 individual developers, which gives a brief idea of how much to expect. Still, there’s a lot of controversy spewing around and with the lead designer fleeing the scene, the game is shelved for the next year. We hope that the studio sets aside its differences and doesn’t overwork the developers to release a poorly polished game like Cyberpunk 2077.
God of War: Ragnarok
God of War: Ragnarok is indeed in the works at the Santa Monica studio but Sony is mum about the game. God of War 4 shifted to Norse mythology and that introduced us to Baldur, a ferocious nemesis and the Son of Odin, who will cross paths with Kratos at some point in time. Ragnarok might bring Thor to the scene and even the thought raises high expectations about the new game.
Also, it was a nice change of pace as God of War 4 introduces Kratos son to the scene. It wasn’t the regular father-son bonding stuff but made for an epic game adventure throughout. God of War: Ragnarok also brought the brutal ax combat into the picture that we wish to see more of, in the near future. Let’s see how events transpire and when can we get our hands on the God of War: Ragnarok.
PS5 exclusives are the best that Sony can do in terms of accentuating the appeal of the console. Our favorite will be the Horizon Forbidden West and the God of War: Ragnarok, which the former will release this year. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart’s release is just this week and even a Final Fantasy game is in talks to release soon. PlayStation 5 owners will surely be busy this year with an abundance of exclusives and third-party titles.
